Sport and Gori

The city of Gori has always stood out with its place in sports. Especially within freestyle wrestling. This city, and Shida Kartli region in general, is the birthplace not only of many champions, but also of many trainers who have contributed to the development of wrestling as a sport at the local and international level. For this reason, Gori is often called the mecca of wrestling. In the discipline of freestyle wrestling, many Gorelians occupy a fairly high positions in world Olympics.
Sport is also an important social event in the region. Until today, you will encounter wrestling arenas organized on Sundays in many villages of Shida Kartli.  The residents of villages and cities, youth as well as adults and seniors, try their luck in wrestling first on these arenas.
