Soloist and Choreographer - Iliko Sukhishvili was born in 1907 in the village of Medjvriskhevi. Parallel with his studies, he went to the Perini Studio of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater. After graduating from the studio of Georgian folk dances in 1926, he became a dancer at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater, and later became a soloist and choreographer. From 1936, he was ballet master of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater. At various times, he staged Zakaria Paliashvili's "Abesalom and Ether" and "Dais" (in Tbilisi and Kyiv), Dolidze's "Keto da Kote" (Kyiv). From 1945 onwards, Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili formed the National Folk Dance Ensemble, which continues to play a vital part in the development of Georgian folk dance. Sukhishvili died in 1985. He is buried in the Pantheon of Public Figures in Didube, Tbilisi.
