Davit Eristavi was born in 1847 in the village of Khidistavi. By 1871, he began to collaborate with the newspapers "Droeba," "Tifliski Vestnik," and "Falanga." From 1882 onwards, he started publishing poems and feuilletons in the "Kavkaz" newspaper. He was a member of the commission that defined the text of "Vepkhistkaosani" (1882), and one of the initiators of the Georgian Dramatic Society . Eristavi translated and adapted many dramatic works. His historical play "Samshoblo" (1881) gained widespread popularity. Eristavi died in 1890 in Tbilisi.
